Mastitis.

I think I might have avoided it today, but it was a close one. (Unnecessary warning: discussion of boobs ahead):

Last night and this morning boob felt sore, like it was bruised, but I couldn’t see any red marks or feel any lumps/hardness like I have in the past when I’ve had a clogged duct or mastitis, so I didn’t think I was headed down that road again. However, by about midday, I started feeling TERRIBLE. Really, really tired, and getting joint aches like I did on interferon (which feel exactly like flu aches which feel exactly like fever/mastitis aches). Then I also noticed some red spots developing on the achy boob. Awesome. To top it off, I realized I hadn’t eaten in hours, because my body was off from Daylight Savings anyway. My stomach hurt like a mofo on top of everything.

So I took a hot bath, Peter made me some food, I nursed Emmie as much as she could stand it, and then I went to sleep. I have no idea how long I slept (an hour, maybe?), but whatever it was, it worked. When I woke up, the aches were gone, my stomach felt better and I spent the rest of day happy and feeling like normal again.

My boob is still a bit achy and I still have the red patches, but hopefully the worst is over. Even if it’s not, I have to go to the doctor (regular doc) tomorrow anyway, so I can get some antibiotics if I end up needing them.

In better news, I think we accidentally did exactly the right thing to help Emmie with Daylight Savings Time last night.

I missed a feeding somewhere in there between work and coming home, so my boobs were a bit full even after she ate (which probably was a big contributing factor to my clogged duct above). To ease my discomfort, and to try to avoid pumping, I snuck into her room a bit earlier than she usually wakes to feed and tried to get her to eat. Lo and behold, it worked! She then slept until 3 or 4 (new time, which would have been 4 or 5, I think?), and then didn’t wake again until 7, which was really like 8, which is WAY later than she usually gets up! Woohoo!

Of course, I know this probably won’t stick and will come back to bite me in the butt tonight (since she went to bed at 6 with the new time and all), but it still was nice this morning.

Finally, if you are looking for a funny movie with some romance, plus Ryan Gosling’s abs, but that even guys will like, Crazy Stupid Love was awesome. We rented it from iTunes for our date night last night and it was exactly what I was hoping for. Even though it starts off with the central character getting a divorce (not exactly a romantic comedy staple there), it’s ultimately super love-affirming and really hilarious. I think I laughed more last night than in a long time. Plus, Ryan Gosling doesn’t hurt your eyes too much (neither does Emma Stone). I think someone should write a smart, funny romcom for those two. In sum, two thumbs up!
